Shepherd's staffWe probably don’t think of it in terms of “follower” and “leader,” but we all follow someone. The leaders in our lives are the ones that have held the greatest influence on our thinking, or have had the biggest impact on our lives. They have helped shape our beliefs, our ideology, and our convictions. In doing so, their leadership is helping determine the kind of people we choose to be. Even if we may not see ourselves as following anyone, we have all been affected and influenced by other people in our lives. We’re all walking in someone else’s footsteps at some point in our lives.

But we should not follow every leader. We are all imperfect people living in an imperfect world, and so at times we will all make poor leaders and poor followers. We need a perfect leader. Not only do we need a perfect leader, but we also need one that can help us when we don’t do so well at following. This Sunday at Liberty Hill I’ll be explaining why Jesus is precisely that perfect leader we so deeply need. Join us at 10:30 AM as we continue our “I Am Jesus” series that focuses on Jesus’ own descriptions of Himself by taking up His claim to be “The Good Shepherd.” Fortunately for all of us, He isn’t looking for perfect sheep!

Grace Received,

Pastor Joe Payne
