It’s inevitable that we will have to make tough decisions in life. Those decisions are even harder when we’re not sure what is the best choice to make. When we look for advice or help in making those tough choices, there is one common phrase that usually gets repeated somewhere in the process: “follow your heart.”

But really, how good is that advice? Isn’t it possible that our heart can lead us down the wrong path? Just as our logic can be clouded at times, so can our heart. In Jeremiah 17:9, God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” He follows that question by reminding us in the next verse that He alone is able to “search the heart and test the mind.” The motives and desires of our heart are not always pure, and sometimes the heart can lead us down a map and compasspath that ends in regret. We all know what it is like to want something that ultimately is not best for us.

This Sunday at Liberty Hill I’ll be continuing our series “Your Heart Matters” by talking about how misguided passion can lead us away from where we truly want to be. It isn’t enough to live our lives with passion, if our passion is leading us away from true life. Join us at 10:30 AM and let’s find the direction our hearts should go!
