Conflicts are an inevitable part of life. Our desires will at times be at odds with others who don’t share our same wishes, and our plans and ambitions will also find similar opposition. From personalities to preferences, life guarantees that we will eventually find ourselves facing resistance.
But what do we do when we find ourselves opposed by God? This, too, is an inevitable conflict. Our desires and choices will at times find ourselves squaring off against God’s will, as what we want is in opposition to what He wants. James 4:6 tells us that “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” It is isn’t just that God at times won’t like what we do; He may actively resist it. The easy answer, of course, is to just change our ways to match His! But that easy answer doesn’t hide the real struggle that comes when we try to come to terms with a God who is vastly different from us.
Beginning this Sunday at Liberty Hill, we will use the book of Psalms to explore the tension that we sometimes go through as we struggle with coming to terms with God. Our new series, “FaceOff”, begins this Sunday as I take a look at what life can be like when we do come to terms with God. Join us at 9:30 AM for Sunday School, and 10:30 AM for our worship service as we consider where we stand with God.
