We are accustomed to “franchise thinking” in America. From fast food restaurants to coffee shops, we expect to find familiar brands, products, and services wherever we travel in America. And even overseas, in many cases. The concept is simple: take a valued product or service, and duplicate the formula, environment, or recipe in a new location.
It may seem odd, but that is very similar to what it means to grow as a follower of Christ. Maturing as a believer in Christ means that the life and character of Christ is replicated within us: and so, wherever we go, we display the virtues, teachings, and character of Christ. It is God’s plan to bring each believer to spiritual maturity, and that maturity is measured in how we display the life of Christ within us. Each believer is essentially a small, walking franchise of the Kingdom of God.
But since all of us Christ-followers are a work in progress, that means we have to intentionally seek to grow; to progress, develop, and mature into being the person God is calling and enabling us to be. It doesn’t do anyone any good at all to slap a franchise name on us, yet not deliver the quality of the original goods. This Sunday at Liberty Hill, I’ll be talking about how we followers of Christ are to grow in Christ, maturing into His life and His image. We’re not looking to just carry a sign on the outside. We want the genuine article working well within us! Come join us at 9:30 AM for Sunday School, and 10:30 AM for our worship service.
